Recently took place in Dubai, and the fashion world is faced with the challenge of fulfilling an ambitious promise: reducing carbon emissions in the fastest way. However, the outlook is not encouraging, as manufacturing, responsible for most environmental damage, poses a monumental challenge. As statistics from an article from the Government of Mexico indicate , the fashion industry contributes significantly to environmental deterioration, being responsible for 20% of total water waste worldwide. Furthermore, the production of clothing and footwear generates 8% of greenhouse gas emissions, underscoring its negative impact on climate change. Big brands have promised significant cuts to their carbon footprint, but the scale of the challenge exceeds available funds, according to , executive vice president of Epic Group, a Hong Kong-based fashion company. For its part, Epic Group, at the forefront of global efforts to reduce fashion's environmental footprint, highlights the importance of a positive partnership between brands and manufacturers as a key to progress.

But what really is the magnitude and scope of the fashion industry? Environmental challenges: the fashion race The fashion industry pledged in 2018 to halve its emissions by 2030 and achieve net zero emissions by 2050. However, progress has been slow. Global demand for fast fashion has worsened the statistics, with Britain generating the same carbon footprint as 900 flights around the world monthly, for example. environmental impact in fast fashion As global brands commit to reducing emissions, the crucial question arises: who will foot the bill for the radical Czech Republic Phone Number List change needed in manufacturing? The manufacturing industry is responsible for 80% of all emissions from the textile sector, and the European Union will require companies to report and address emissions in their supply chains from next year. To speed up the process, textile manufacturers are looking to brands to share the financial burden of investing in low-carbon technology and processes. The Transformers Foundation , a New York-based think tank, calls for collective action to achieve a climate transition, and highlights the importance of asking who will pay for this major transformation.

Measures for a more sustainable industry: higher obstacles? Manufacturers propose financing options, such as low-interest loans and direct investments, to support the transition to more renewable technologies. Initiatives such as the Fashion Climate Fund, which mobilized $250 million with the goal of unlocking another $2 billion in financing and reducing 150 million tons of carbon over the next three decades. However, there are currently obstacles such as diversity of priorities and issues among providers, where one size does not fit all. Lack of funding and the complexity of adapting to specific needs pose significant challenges. Flexibility and long-term support are crucial to achieving an effective transformation. In short, fashion is in a race against time to meet its climate commitments. Collaboration between brands and manufacturers, supported by adequate and flexible financing, could pave the way towards a more sustainable and environmentally conscious fashion industry.
